- About Liam Schaechter
Liam Schaechter is a Trainee Solicitor at KMT Law LLP, having joined the firm as a Paralegal in 2024. He practises across two core teams, Dispute Resolution and Corporate/Commercial, with experience spanning high-value and complex litigation and commercial and corporate matters.
Dispute Resolution
Liam is experienced across a range of contentious matters. His litigation work spans commercial disputes arising from contractual arrangements, banking and payment services disputes, including matters involving frozen funds in PSP accounts, insolvency proceedings on both creditor and debtor sides, commercial debt recovery, landlord and tenant litigation (commercial and residential), and employment tribunal proceedings.
He is experienced in drafting pre-action correspondence, pleadings, witness statements, applications, and procedural documents, and handles matters for individuals, SMEs, and corporates through to settlement or trial.
Highlight matters include:
Professional Negligence Claim (value in excess of £500,000): Liam played a central role in a professional negligence claim against a former barrister arising in the context of a Consumer Credit Act defence. He joined the matter as a paralegal and saw it through to a five-day trial in his first year of training. Working alongside counsel, Liam attended the full trial, and navigated a demanding case against a well-resourced defendant.
Personal Guarantee Dispute (value in excess of £600,000): Liam acted for a client facing a claim under a personal guarantee by a Dutch casino management company, which ran concurrently with criminal proceedings initiated by the client for alleged fraud at the client’s casino in Georgia. Liam conducted research and drafted pre-action correspondence, attended and represented the client at mediation, leading negotiations that ultimately led to the claimant abandoning its claim entirely.
Landlord and tenant (value nearing £1,000,000): Liam worked on a significant landlord and tenant dispute involving rental arrears of nearly £1 million for a London city centre penthouse.
Corporate & Commercial
Liam handles a range of corporate and commercial matters, with experience drafting and negotiating numerous contracts including shareholder agreements, share purchase agreements, consultancy agreements, facility agreements, introduction agreements, and terms and conditions. Amongst these, Liam negotiated an employment agreement valued at approximately £450,000 annually on behalf of a trader, conducting multi-week negotiations directly with the head of legal of a Fortune 500 US company.
Liam has drafted legal opinions on EMI arrangements and FCA authorisation requirements relating to payment services regulations.
Appraisals
“As for Liam’s contribution, I must stress how excellent he was. I was gobsmacked to learn he is only a trainee. He was focused, diligent, and an excellent team player. He also showed remarkable leadership at points. I know I’ve only met him during this trial, but my impression was that he really is a credit to your firm.” [Counsel, 2025]
“That is a cracking letter, not just the content but the tone, absolutely first rate.” [King’s Counsel (KC), 2026]
